Work Types

What are Work Types?

Work Types help map SprintSuite timesheet entries into the correct SprintPay pay categories.

For example, if a SprintSuite timesheet uses “Day Shift”, the matching Work Type can tell SprintPay which pay category should be used.

Why are Work Type external IDs important?

SprintPay reads the Work Type ID during import.

If the Work Type external ID is missing or incorrect, the import can fail.

A common issue is when someone changes the name of a work type, such as changing “Personal Leave” to “Sick Leave”, but the external ID is not updated to match. In that case, the external ID needs to be fixed and the import re-run.

Do we need Work Types for every overtime rule?

No. Work Types are only required where a specific work type or code needs to trigger a specific payroll outcome.

General overtime can often be handled by rule sets instead.
